Welcome to Foundation 2!

We are all very excited for the beginning of a new academic year and we are sure that your child’s time with us will be a very happy one.

Our main focus this half term is to have all the children happy and settled in their new classrooms and routines, and enjoying eating their lunches at school. Children will get to know their new teachers and friends, and exploring their environment. After assessments have taken place, children will be having daily phonics and maths sessions.

A reading book will be given to your child each week. Please watch the video clip below which gives you more information and explains how to record a reading session with your child at home.

Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat and a pair of wellies (both labelled with your child’s name). These can be left on your child’s peg.

We have now started PE so it is essential that your child comes to school on their designated PE day in their PE kit. Please remember the School follows a no-jewellery policy during PE sessions. Staff are not allowed to remove children’s jewellery so this needs to be removed before they come to school.

Thank you,

Mrs Anderssen

Summer Term

This is an exciting term for us in Foundation Stage 2! As the weather gets hotter, please remember to send your child to school with a sun hat and sun cream on if needed.

Now the Summer is here we will be finding out about the features of the Summer and comparing this to the seasons that have come before. This term our learning is based around the seaside and we will be finding out about different sea creatures including crabs, turtles, jellyfish, octopus and shark. We will also be identifying key features of the beach including sand, sea, cliffs and pebbles and talking about how the landscape differs from where we live.

Another concept we will be exploring is floating and sinking and we will be predicting and testing different materials to see if we can identify any patterns.

Our class stories this term are based on these key themes and include ‘Shark in the Park’ and ‘Tiddler’. We will continue to make our story maps and use these to practise re-telling the story.

In maths we are learning about pattern and shapes including manipulating and rotating shapes to make shape pictures. We will continue to consolidate our learning of number bonds, doubles and odd and even numbers.

We will also be taking part in Sports Day this term and will work hard with our class to get as many points as we can for our team! Our PE slots continue to be on the designated day for our class so please continue to send your child to school in their PE kit on this day. Soon we will be finding out who our new teachers are and what class we will be in when we move into Year 1, very exciting times!

Hello All!

It's now our Spring Term even though it's Winter time! We will be learning all about Winter. We will be learning about the weather, the characteristics of Winter e.g. the temperature gets colder, dark nights and mornings, bare trees and animal life.  We will be finding out about hot and cold places in the world and looking at similarities and differences with animals that live in the woods compared to those that live in the polar regions.

We will also be learning about old and new objects/toys, which will be very exciting!

In English there will be more writing of CVC words and captions, new sounds in phonics and hopefully better control with our pencils when writing. There will be a big focus on developing language and the confidence to speak in sentences. This will be through whole class discussions, small groups and play based learning. Our core texts this half term focus are Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and Jack Frost by Kazuno Kohara.

In Maths we are trying to use as many mathematical words as possible to help our language skills such as heavy, light, weight, full, empty, half full, one less, one more and positional language (on/on top). We will also be learning to double a number to 8. For example, double 2 is 4 and double 4 is 8. Finally, we will be learning to combine two groups as an early form of addition.

Autumn 1 - The Woods

We are learning about 'The Woods' this term and discovering which animals live in this habitat. We are learning the names of some common woodland animals such as squirrels, foxes and hedgehogs. We are also looking forward to our trip to an Arboretum to gain a woodland experience. Alongside this learning, we are focusing on our key text - 'We're going on a Bear Hunt.'  The children are enjoying taking part in retelling this story using our class story map.

This term we will also focused on families, and talking about the important people in our lives. We will look at baby photos of the children and talk about how they have changed since they were a baby, and what they can do now.

Soon we will be looking for the signs of autumn and discussing leaves changing colour and falling from the trees.

How exciting!

Autumn 2!

Hello everyone. This half term we will be learning about lots of things dark and light. We will look at nocturnal animals, how our seasons change at this time of year, the Earth and space, important celebrations like Remembrance Day, Diwali and Bonfire Night. We will be enjoying more singing and dancing and music appreciation as well as lots of work on counting to 5.
