We are looking forward to two trips this term. The first to Abbey Park and after half term we are going to visit Manor Farm in East Leake.
We are focusing on the traditional tale of Jack and the Beanstalk and using this as a stimulus to grow our own beanstalk and sunflowers in the classroom. We have also focused on the Princess and the Pea and Rapunzul and have enjoyed completing some writing about the stories.
We had a lovely time celebrating the King’s coronation with a tasty coronation lunch and assembly. We worked hard to practise our new coronation song.
Our Key Texts
Since returning to school from the Christmas break, we have been enjoying our learning about Winter and the animals that live in the colder regions. We have loved finding out facts about polar bears and penguins!
We have enjoyed reciting and retelling stories, some of our favourites are Little Rabbit Foo Foo, one Snowy night, Lost and found, and Jack Frost.
In maths we have been consolidating our learning on numbers up to five and now further up to ten. We have practiced finding one more than a number within ten. We are learning to add by combining groups of objects and we are becoming more familiar with the part-part whole method. We have looked at measures these being weight, height and length.
We wanted the children to exercise caution when surfing the internet and had a discussion about how to stay safe on the internet. We discussed this in detail on Safer internet day.
In phonics we have been consolidating the sounds and moving onto the ‘special friends’, two letters that make one sound. We are learning to spell using ‘Fred Fingers’. Some of us have even moved onto reading story books now!
During our PE sessions in the hall, we have been learning to find different ways of traveling using apparatus. We have explored the benches and tables and learning to jump and land safely.
In music we have explored pitch and tempo and learning some new songs.
Next term we will be exploring ‘Our World’…
During the Autumn term, we have been learning all about the woodlands and dark and light. We have been finding out about Autumn time and the changing seasons.
We have begun to develop a love of stories and have become very familiar with the stories Peace at Last, Owl Babies, Whatever Next, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?, and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.
We have been learning all about the celebrations that have taken place this term and have enjoyed taking part in a Harvest celebration, Black History Month and a Diwali party with our friends.
In maths we have been working with numbers to 5 and have been learning to count accurately, the cardinality of a set of objects, ordering and comparing the size of numbers, the composition of each number and how to change the numbers using addition and subtraction. We have also learnt about 2D shapes and positional language.
In our classrooms we have been learning to share and take turns and to care for our friends and the learning environment. In our outdoor provision the children have enjoyed exploring the music wall, dancing with scarves, building with outdoor wooden blocks, making the giant scales balance on both sides, and also exploring the sandpit.
To end the term, we are really looking forward to our trip to the Curve theatre to see a showing of Dear Santa, which links with our work on the story called Dear Zoo. We can’t wait!
Welcome to Foundation 2!
We are all very excited for the beginning of a new academic year and we are sure that your child’s time with us will be a very happy one.
Our main focus this half term is to have all the children happy and settled in their new classrooms and routines, and enjoying eating their lunches at school. Children will get to know their new teachers and friends, and exploring their environment. After assessments have taken place, children will be having daily phonics and maths sessions.
A reading book will be given to your child each week. Please watch the video clip below which gives you more information and explains how to record a reading session with your child at home.
Please ensure your child has a waterproof coat and a pair of wellies (both labelled with your child’s name). These can be left on your child’s peg.
We have now started PE so it is essential that your child comes to school on their designated PE day in their PE kit. Please remember the School follows a no-jewellery policy during PE sessions. Staff are not allowed to remove children’s jewellery so this needs to be removed before they come to school.
